About this Dance EdVenture™
Week 1: Dance Concept STATES
(Static & Dynamic)

In Week 1 of the Dance to Learn® With Me Parent & Me Curriculum , toddlers and their caregivers explore the Dance Concept of States through the attributes of Static (freezing, holding shapes) and Dynamic (moving, traveling, dancing) states. Young dancers discover how their bodies can alternate between being “statues” and moving with energy, setting the foundation for body control, listening skills, and self-regulation.

This playful, developmentally supportive lesson includes stop-and-go exploration, freeze dance, and caregiver-guided movement to help toddlers build coordination, focus, and confidence. Caregivers participate throughout the class modeling movement, offering encouragement, and supporting meaningful connection as dancers learn when to pause, when to move, and how to explore States playfully.

This lesson plan supports key developmental skills through:

  • Foundational action and non-action discovery
  • Sensory-rich movement experiences rooted in the Whole Child Dance Method™
  • Predictable, toddler-friendly class sequencing
  • Strengthened caregiver–child bonding
  • Early musicality, rhythm awareness, and emotional regulation

The Benefits of this Dance EdVenture™

Exploring the dance concept of States through Static (freeze) and Dynamic (move) states is one of the most engaging ways to introduce toddlers and caregivers to dance. This theme taps into natural toddler play: stop/go, freeze dance, and playful contrasts; making participation effortless and playful. The shift between stillness and movement strengthens body awareness, self-regulation, and sensory processing, while giving caregivers clear, supportive roles in class. Because the activities are simple, rhythmic, and story-driven, toddlers stay focused longer, move with purpose, and begin building foundational movement skills from day one, all within the Whole Child Dance Method™ approach.
