If you're planning summer dance camps, choosing the right theme can make all the difference. A strong camp theme creates excitement, encourages imagination, and provides a structure for activities throughout the day.
Princess themes are always a favorite for young dancers, and one of the most magical ways to build a Cinderella dance camp is through a treasure hunt adventure.
One of our favorite activities is Cinderella’s Lost Glass Slipper Treasure Hunt, where dancers follow magical clues from the Fairy Godmother as they travel from princess to princess searching for the missing slipper.
Princess themes naturally combine movement, storytelling, and imagination, making them perfect for younger dancers.
A themed camp also helps instructors organize activities in a way that feels cohesive and exciting for children.
Some benefits include:
- Built-in storytelling: Princess stories already contain clear characters, adventures, and magical moments. These elements make it easy to create games, choreography, and movement activities that feel connected.
- Movement through imagination: When dancers pretend to tiptoe through the castle in glass slippers or pretend they are mice sneaking past the evil step mother, they are practicing real dance skills like balance, pathways, and locomotor movement.
- High excitement for campers: Many young dancers arrive already familiar with princess characters. This familiarity makes it easier to capture attention and keep children engaged throughout the camp.
One of the most popular activities in our Cinderella dance camp is a magical scavenger hunt led by the Fairy Godmother.
In this game, dancers travel around the room visiting different princess stations while following clues that eventually lead them to Cinderella’s missing glass slipper.
Set up several princess stations around the dance room. Each princess station holds the next clue (we call Boppity Boo Clues) from the Fairy Godmother.
These can be simple decorations like:
"Bippity Boppity Boo!
I'm Cinderella's Fairy Godmother! I've left clues around camp to help you find her lost glass slipper.
Put on your tiara and glass slippers and tip-toe over to Princess Tiana following the leader!"
At Princess Tiana’s station dancers find the next clue:
"Hello Sugar! Thanks for visitin' me here in the south. I'm busy cookin' something tasty, but I don't have Cinderella's slipper. I saw some mice over by the costume bench. They were inside Belle's box!"
Dancers continue following clues until they discover the hidden glass slipper.
While this activity feels like a magical adventure, it also reinforces many important dance skills.
Tip-toe walking: Dancers practice balance and control as they move quietly through the room.
Following pathways: Traveling from station to station helps children understand direction and spatial awareness.
Listening and sequencing: Following clues encourages dancers to listen carefully and remember the next steps in the adventure.
