Teddy Bear's Picnic! The Perfect Spot: Sizes
The Teddy Bear's Picnic: The Perfect Spots Lesson Plan is a Conceptualized-Thematic Lesson Plan. The Lesson Plan serves as a foundational exploration of general dance movements through the lens of the Teddy Bear's Picnic Story. In this engaging lesson, young dancers will discover through parachute play, body movements and story dance obstacle courses, how to create different sizes with their bodies! The use of multi-sensory props, play based exploration and story telling, dancers will grow a greater understanding of the dance concept: Sizes.
- Meet Chair Bear: Young dancers will begin by sitting in a little chair at a little table with Chair Bear! Chair Bear teaches dancers how to sit in a small chair (knee bends with feet together) at a small table (arms in first position) as well as sitting in a big chair (knee bends with feet apart) and a big table(arms in in a wide position). These dance exercises emphasizes the importance of maintaining proper alignment and body control as they lay the groundwork for their dance journey.
- Meet Peanut Butter and Jelly Bear: Spread peanut butter on one side and jelly on the other! Now jump both sides apart big and jump both sides together little to create an échappé jump!. Jumping benefits our dancers by strengthening bone density, improving focus, building coordination and enhancing balance!
- Meet Lemonade Bear: There's nothing more refreshing at a Teddy Bear's Picnic than a glass of cold lemonade! Lemonade Bear teaches our dancers how to make lemonade by practicing the static balance of coupé (little lemon) and passé (big lemon). Along with dynamic balances such as tip toe walks (small traveling movement) and tip toe marches (big traveling movement) and stimulating the vestibular system by mixing up the lemonade with some twirls.
- Finding the Perfect Picnic Spot: Dancers will enjoy a story themed obstacle course where they combine their dynamic balance and static balance exercises as they find the perfect spot to have their picnic. Our Story Dance Pathways™ include 5 key components: Dynamic Balance Exercises (Traveling Movements), Static Balance Exercises (Stationary Movements), Jumping Exercise, Vestibular Exercise and ends with a Creative Exploration - which in this Lesson Plan includes a Parachute Play activity to represent the Picnic Blanket!
